October Photo Re-Cap: 3 Beautiful Insights continued

stitch fix stuff

As promised, this is a review of Stitch Fix, an online personal style consult.

Over-all I give Stitch Fix

I signed up for my first “fix” on stitchfix.com in October. I was very excited to receive these four pieces in the mail with handy style suggestions on the little cards pictured above, plus…

When you sign up for Stitch Fix online, you answer several questions about your personal style preferences and size. At the end of the questionnaire there is  an additional comment box to tell your stylist anything else about yourself that you think might be relevant, like what you do for a living or whether you tend to wear more casual or business-like clothing.

I loved everything I received:  trendy but with classic lines (exactly the look I was hoping for), very good quality fabric, and a perfect fit!

The olive skinny jeans are stretchy and soft, but thick enough I don’t feel like I’m wearing tights or pajamas, and not so skinny that I can barely get them over my rear end or past my feet.

The black studded 3/4 sleeve shirt falls perfectly at the right spot on my hip, not too long, not too short, nips in at my waist, then drapes nicely past my mom hips.

The red cowl neck sweater is  versatile, not so heavy that I feel hot or chunky, and a very flattering color for my complexion.

The blazer is ruched at the elbows for a more casual ‘scrunched up’ look and a perfect length for my shorter frame. I like the option of folding the cuff so the preppy navy and white lining shows. I love that I can class up almost any casual outfit because of the neutral grey tone and smooth lines.

The chunky collar necklace is a little bit ethnic, like me, but still understated and versatile because of its silver tone. In fact, I already have a piece similar to it that I wear often, so it was my least “love it” but still a solid “like it” on the questionnaire I filled out after I received my fix.

Now for the only negative remark I have about Stitch Fix:  It’s still pretty expensive for a frugal fashionista like myself,  even though the $20 you pay up front for your “styling” is applied as credit toward your first purchase (if you don’t keep anything, you lose $20).

Returning items, however, is very easy:  there’s a postage paid bag in the box with your items; you simply pack whatever you don’t want into the bag and drop it off at your nearest US post office within three day of receiving you fix, then you fill out an after questionnaire online regarding each piece.

In the questionnaire you fill out before you order where it asks your price range, I checked the cheapest option of $60 per piece hoping it would be way less! But when I received my fix in the mail, everything cost an average of $50 per piece, and that is with a 25% discount if I keep it all. If I don’t keep it all, I’ll end up paying more like 70-90 bucks per piece.

By the way, you can get $25 credit for every friend that signs up  to Stitch Fix with your referral. It’s easy to do because they give you the option of sharing a link with friends on Facebook or via email.

As I write this, I’m in a dilemna:

1) Keep it all for $50 bucks per item (Yikes! Feliz Navidad, Happy Birthday, Happy Mother’s Day…)

2) Keep my two favorite pieces at $85 per item. (Little yikes! I can get a lot of discounted clothing for that much money!)

3) Send it all back and lose my $20.

Sadly, this will probably be my last fix because of the price range. However,  an average of $50 per item is not too bad once or twice a year for someone to style you with some very high quality pieces that you’re certain to love.

Over-all, if you don’t have a friendly fashionista nearby to help you shop, if you’re too busy, if your retail options are too limited where you live, or if you simply don’t enjoy shopping, Stitch Fix is a fun, great alternative.

Maybe, like me, you usually buy great pieces for $3 at thrift stores and on clearance,  so maybe it’s okay to spend more once in a while on a few good quality pieces…;).

This is the second of three photo re-caps for October..stay tuned for one more in the next day or two!
